Montresor And Zaroff Essay - 1074 Words

â€Å"Nemo me impune lacessit,† in other words no one attacks me without worrying about punishment. These words are from the intriguing character Montresor, or the author of the story Edgar Allan Poe. Montresor, from the short story of â€Å"the cask of amontillado† is a serial killer who murders people who insult him. In this short tale he murders a man by the name of Fortunato who ends up insulting the wrong person. Another character that would make great friends with Montresor would be General Zaroff, from the short story â€Å"the most dangerous game† by Richard Connell. General Zaroff is a ruthless man who loves to hunt people, not just anyone but people he believes are low in status or are of equal match to his capability to hunt. If you go back to the quot es you can see that both are barbaric in their actions. One kills people for fun, while another tortures people for what they believe that they deserve. They are both inconsiderate. They are inconsiderate because, they seem to only care for themselves and not for others. For one they kill people but, they both also do these things for selfish reasons. Zaroff does his murderous things in his way for his own satisfaction not for others, he barely even considers most of them human. Montresor on the other hand murders people so that he can feel better about himself and as if this is what they deserve because they mocked him. Although these are two of their main faults, they still have one more obvious character trait in common. Montresor and Zaroff are both genuinely devious in their thinking. In the story General Zaroff’s clever thinking is put into play, Watch! Out there! exclaimed the general, pointing into the night.
